About Central Library Islamia College Peshawar

One of the assets of Islamia College Peshawar is its Central Library. It is one of the oldest libraries in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan and was established in 1913. The library is located on the main road of the campus which is accessible on equal distance from all the departments as well as hostels of the University. It has a separate building covering an area of about 13000 Sq. ft. The building consists of two big halls and nine adjacent rooms. One hall and four rooms were added to the library in 1972. Recently two separate computer labs for boys and girls have also been allocated.

It is one of the richest academic libraries in the province, containing 90,000 books and 1261 manuscripts. It also provide access to additional resources through various databases by utilizing Higher education Commission Digital Library Resources, which includes more than 10000 journals and around 150000 e-books on variety of subjects. Besides all these HEC Digital Library provides facility of British Document Delivery Service through which specialized resources can be acquired free of cost.

The Central Library, ICP promotes the mission of the university by serving the curricular information needs of ICP students, faculty and staff, and where possible, the educational needs of the broader community. The Library anticipates and strives to use innovations in education and technology, and responds to the evolving curriculum. The efforts of every member of the Library staff are committed to the ultimate objective of providing the highest possible quality of service. To these ends, the library selects, acquires, processes, organizes and maintains Library materials appropriate to the academic and cultural interest of this institution. The Library facilitates access to information and materials through the provision of a wide variety of services. The Library provides an environment conducive to learning by providing study and reading facilities. The Library teaches students to find information independently so that they may better perform their tasks as well-informed members of society.
