Eliot, T. S. 1888-1965.

The cocktail party, a comedy. - New York, Harcourt, Brace [1950] - 190, [2] p. music 22 cm.

In verse. Originally published: London: Faber & Faber, 1950. (See LCCN 50002371.) "In all but 'about ten copies (at most)' of the impression, pages 35-36 are printed on a cancel leaf which corrects an error in the attribution of the last two speeches on page 35... Through oversight, the words 'first American edition' were omitted from the verso of the title-page on the first printing. Second and subsequent impressions may be identified by code symbols."--Gallup. In uncorrected copies of the first impression of the first American edition, near the bottom of p. 35, Julia says, "I'm very sorry," and Edward replies. Reissue, with cancel leaf for pages 35-36: in the corrected text near the bottom of p. 35 of the cancel leaf, Edward says, "I'm very sorry," and Julia replies. A later impression of the first American edition has publisher's code b*3*50 and has a reprinted leaf 35-36 bound in (not a cancel); has the corrected text at the bottom of p. 35. Another impression of the first American edition has publisher's code c*3*50 and has a reprinted leaf 35-36 bound in (not a cancel); has the corrected text at the bottom of p. 35. For another Harcourt Brace edition published the same year, see LCCN 50014646. "One-Eyed Riley" (words with melody): p. [192]. LC Copy 1 of PS3509.L43 C6 has the cancel leaf for p. 35-56. In dust jacket. Gift of Herman Finkelstein, Dec. 30, 1980.
